Not 'Barmy' just the same mistake lots of young first time trainspotters made in the 1950s! 578 is the BR Western Region train reporting number for a South West to North West Express. The loco number 6024 is just visible behind 578. All expresses of the Western Region had reporting numbers see also photo 345850 and 344979 with 116 for the Bristolian and 130 for Cornish Riveria Express. The modern reporting number was 1Z60 denoting a Class 1 train Z being a special and 60 the train number the equivalent of 578.
