All ex-USSR train operator use similar rules for lights. That, during maneuvering at station, locomotive engineers must turn on light in front and rear locomotive that side, there he is. Conductors and other stuff can easily figured, where they must stay to be able inform locomotive engineer via hand signs to do some work, like "move forward", "move backward", "stop", "test brakes" and so on.
