Sad to see it just sitting like this. Being able to move under it's own power after the accident proves the EMD SD40-2 is built tough as nails.

The fact that this unit is still sitting as it is. Is probably so that it can be used and inspected as part of any legal action pertaining to the accident.

Well, the frame's straight, and she was able to move under her own power, so she should be good. My guess is that since she's an SD40-2, BNSF will wait until traffic picks up before fixing her. If they do.

I think it's somewhat funny that the Dodge Pick-up in the back looks almost as bad as the 40.

The SD40-2 and the SD40-T2 probably had to be the best locomotive design to ever roll out of EMD.This photo is proof of that.

I'm sure if the BNSF is not interested in repair for this SD40-2, they will post her up for auction in the coming time and hopefully some shortline or regional railroad picks her up and continues operation. I agree, it is amazing to still see the 6851 sitting in Denver having been untouched in the yard since being set aside at this location since the accident did occur. Great Shot!

OK, just to correct you, its not at north yard, its at the BN Globeville yard Round House. I was on that engine a couple of days prior to the accident. The area where it occured is on the Market Street mainline, which used to service industries off Market Street downtown. It has since been re-stenciled, its now the BNSF 1651.
