Wow, what a amazing scene

Several years ago, I boarded this train in Zurich for a ride to Lugano. It was 7:00am. As the train entered the Gotthard Pass, I was standing and looking through a glass enclosed vestibule that separated the passengers from the engineer's cab. I had the same view as the driver as the train began the assault. The driver saw me in his mirror and called the conductor. The conductor came up to the head of the train and asked if I would like to join the engineer in the cab. It seems that the driver was feeling drowsy and wanted me to keep him company. We chatted all the way through the spiral tunnels, through the eight mile Gotthardo tunnel, and down through the spiral tunnels to Bellenzona. All the way a buzzer would sound every thirty seconds or so and he would step on a button. If he failed to step on the button the train would stop. As we got close to Bellenzona he asked me to leave the cab because he would be fired if I was seen in the cab when we entered the Bellenzona Station. The driver was a great guy. He spoke perfect English. His hobby was restoring a 1953 Ford pickup truck
