It is a very rare that a Steam Locomotive is seen being towed at all. The reason is that just as an automobile engine has piston rings, so does the Steam Locomotive. If a Steam Locomotive is not "under steam" than the Piston Rings will not be lubricated. Steam Locomotives have Lubricators which inject oil into the steam that is going to the pistons and rings. The only way to tow a Steam Locomotive not "under steam" is to remove the main connecting rods from between the Piston Rods and the Main Drive Wheel. I hope that the 1413 was properly prepared for it's tow.
