I know they must have been hard to keep clean but...MAN, how I miss the colorful boxcars of the late 60s and early 70s. L & N used to do their elongated auto parts boxcars in the same scheme. I remember seeing those alongside the teal New York central boxcars, the (orange?) Detroit Toledo and Ironton auto boxcars and other colors flying on trains across the viaducts in east central Illinois (Effingham area) where my Grandmother lived. It was brand marketing on a very special scale (no pun intended with this photograph) for the railroads, and I salute those who originated it, as well as others (I'm thinking of former Kansas City Southern chief Mike Haverty) who "resurrected" these fallen color schemes on both locomotives and non-motored rolling stock for the same purposes.

This is a great shot. In fact the track looks exactly like we have on our model, thanks for showing us the prototype.
