Ted, please explain what a "dummy" wheel set is as opposed to a normal one.

A dummy wheelset does not have a traction motor. They are just used to get a crippled unit moving to clear the track and then moved to a shop to get a regular wheelset with motor installed.

Cool Shot! Up until now when I thought of a "Dummy" it was only in HO scale!

I know they take safety precautions for things like this but I still wouldn't want to be that close to the unit with it hanging like that.

In the rail industry, we refer to those as an "idler"

And here I thought a dummy wheel set was for when a railroad wanted more trains but the president's wife wouldn't let him spend that kind of money. Great detail shot and good info, thanks for sharing!
