What caused the damage to the wheel? Just curious.

From what I've heard, the diesel providing support to the 844 was put in power through the loco-link that the 844 has. The engineer (not Ed Dickens) panicked & threw it in emergency. He didn't bail off the independent (release the locomotive brakes) & the 844 slide on stopped wheels for about 50ft.
