Very fitting location! This could be cover art if the song were to be re-released.

I grew up on the IC, joined the Army in 89, and was shocked when the single tracked the main. It still doesn't look right when I go home and look down the tracks for a headlight and there's only one track.

I thought that "City of New Orleans" was an Arlo Guthrie song. Steve Goodman must have covered it. I'll have to look up Steve's version on YouTube. Interesting pic.

Great caption Mike...makes an old news photog proud with the story in the cut line.

"All along the southbound odessy the train pulls out of Kankakee". Fitting; you're only a few miles south of Kankakee. I was there once; I had Arlo Guthrie's version stuck in my mind for a week.

Looked at this location on Google Earth; looks like nothing has changed in 20 years!

Great picture and a great song. Steve Goodman wrote it and it was covered by many such as Arlo Guthrie and Johny Cash.

Curious142, "City of New Orleans" was written by Steve Goodman, and he sung his own version of it. However, Goodman was mainly a songwriter, and sold the song to Arlo Guthrie after meeting him in a bar and singing it for him.

What, pray tell, is that second unit??
Awesome shot by the way!

Great shot Mike and what a song to fit. You guys are correct, this area still looks the same to this day even after all these years. Willie Nelson did the greatest version of City of New Orleans.
