True the Thoroughbred may not have lasted much longer, but the two Monon high short hood Century 420s (with their steam generators removed) spent the rest of their time in the eastern Kentucky Coal Fields as part of the largest Alco fleet in the country. Their high short hoods were never cut down making them easily identifiable with their past service.

Monon and Long Island were the ONLY roads to own "high shorthood C-420s. BOTH ran them in Passenger Service, Long-Hood-Forward.
