Actually the design was very successful, going on to be used on industrial railways for many years, their early demise from the British Railways network was more to do with the closing of the services and yards these locomotives were designed to work, there simple wasn't any work left for them by the time the whole class had been completed! In fact many of these locomotives never did any of the work they were intended for when owned by BR. The class were introduced from 1964, built at the Swindon works of BR, all had been sold-on or scrapped by the end of 1970.

Great story of the Class 14! I am particularly a railfan of diesel-hydraulic locomotive, and this "Teddy bear" is on my list!! Thank you for this photo!
