I like these things: that reverse slope windshield to reduce glare is a pretty neat idea and, at least to me, gives the machine a "Let's get on with it and do business" character.
Somewhere, most likely in a book which is currently buried in a box in "that" closet, these have what is termed a monomotor bogie, i.e. one motor drives both axles. And it may be these or it may be another monomotor bogie equipped locomotive which is provided with selectable gear ratios, but those have to be selected while stopped, or maybe by the shop.
