Fantastic pic as always, Eugene. Your caption highlights everything that is wrong with SA's railways today. Sadly Transnet Freight Rail are geared up for what their name suggests - freight. Passengers can go swivel. When I was last in SA in 2010, I was at Warrenton when TFR suffered from one of ESKOM's all too frequent power cuts. When power was restored all trains were held whilst the manganese train headed north unhindered. The Warrenton Section Manager told me that the Manganese was 'The Money Train'. TFR have lost their way - they should be getting people out of the infamous taxis, and onto the steel road.

Thanks Jez and Eugene. So it is not always Shosholoza Meyl's fault? When I was there in 2011, it appeared Shosholoza was trying to shoot itself in the foot any time it could.
