Those ex-GM&O GP38s with their poling pockets, one of the rare application of them to second gen power.

When I looked at the thumb nail of this pic I thought the engine was leaning into a heavy banked curve then I did the blow up and discovered there is no curve.

"Poling pockets"...now THERE'S an old railroading phrase I hadn't heard for awhile (and given how dangerous that practice could be, I'm guessing many are glad said phrase is gone). What a handsome paint job this is, regardless.

OUCH! Great photo though,i happened to see a polling operation on the L&AL in Avon yard, pretty neat but dangerous stuff. Keep back when the poll falls!
