Is that a cd player I see? Wish we had those in the cabs in Canada!

Yes, that is a CD player you see. I almost put that in the caption..... As we work single man crews and can be on the road for hours at a time our union negotiated for all our mainline locos have a "personal entertainment radio" fitted as standard, complete with "aux in" so you can listen to your mp3 player via the loco speakers. The stereo will auto mute when there is radio traffic on the shunt / train control radio channels thus negating any issues arrising from too much ooonst causing the LE not to hear to the controller. This is the only way we are allowed to listen to music as anything else with earphones is deemed to be a "non approved audio device" and hence outlawed. Its a real life saver on nightshift I can tell you!

Thanks for the explanation Andrew. The differences between railways in other countries are always interesting!

I'll take somebody in that folded up chair over a CD player, well, depends on the person though.
