I thought I'd read that there was another either near-abandoned UP or former SP line that KCS was trying to acquire alongside this (now renovated) one, this being somewhere between Houston and the old Tex-Mex connection near Corpus Christi. I recall reading about this in a mid-2000s magazine interview with Mike Haverty, who was VERY happy about the acquisition of the "Macaroni line" trackage. Was always curious if the other acquisition and/or construction ever happened.
