Impressive! Was this part of a steam photo charter? Seems late in the game for regular steam runs.

This is a regular service train. The year 1980 still saw some decent steam action on the East German Railways, with many of the best mainline workings being handled by oil fired, modernized engines. This situation changed abruptly when the Soviets severely curtailed discounted oil sales to East Germany. As a result some coal burners were pulled out of storage/deadlines and put back into service, including on some mainline workings. This mainline revival did not last long. However, steam on secondary lines lingered almost up to reunification, with most workings being handled by modernized BR52.80 Kriegloks and the BR50 2-10-0 on which the war time austerity BR52 design was based. Thanks for viewing!
