Like the shot very much. Nice subdued light to show off the ACL livery without making the purple seem too bright. Some nice subtle detaileg weathering for modelers like me. Nice photo George.

George I have looked at this picture several times and never noticed the NH express car in the back. I always liked the ACL purple. It was the livery on the F3 of my first HO train set by Varney.

I've just noticed that this is the same E7 as in my photo posted here of N&W's POCAHONTAS at Blue Ridge. The unit was leased by N&W in November of the same year.

I most likely saw this same train once or twice as it passed through Warsaw, NC that summer. My grandfather was a section foreman on the ACL in Warsaw at the time. This line ran from Wilson to Wilmington on what was called the W and W which was the original main line of the ACL. W & W was the Wilmington & Weldon RR, predecessor to the ACL.
