Do you know anything about the prime mover? I wonder if the Chinese copied the FDL from the 440 C36-7's that they bought from GE in the early '80's. Just like the Russians copied the ALCO prime mover from the units they got during WWII. I think that's why all the photos we see here of Russian diesels show them smoking like an ALCO.

The engines are are a 20 cylinder twin turbo made by MTU in Germany and installed in the locos in China.
