I'm most curious to know more about this trailer, and haven't been able to find anything online. In particular, I wonder what its interior was like - if the RFE had to live their for lengthy stretches, one hopes it had all the comforts of home! At least it looks like it had sufficient air conditioning.

I also have had little luck finding out anything beyond a few local contacts in Utah. Hoping that the WP fans and historians will chime in and enlighten us. Anyone?

The device on top of the trailer is known as a Swamp Cooler, these use the principle of blowing air over water to cool the air. The trailer appears to be made of aluminum which would reflect some heat.

Leave it to you, James, to come up with yet another obscure piece of railroading! Great catch ... even if it does have an obstruction. (Sorry, I couldn't resist...)
