The hog business, originating in eastern Nebraska and Marysville, KS, rode the NPLAV out of North Platte and lasted until 1995 or 1996. It is likely the car pictured here was bad ordered enroute and upon repair picked up by the first westbound rather than wait for the next day's priority train.
