These are OBVIOUSLY "media people", NOT "fans", as NO ONE in their right mind stands that close to a moving locomotive to take pictures anymore. Maybe decades ago, but NOT NOW.

Rich, I agree that those appear to be TV news people; however, I disagree that fans don't get that close. On the contrary, I see many fans (especially those in their teens and 20s) getting that close or even closer. In my area they stand on the edge of passenger platforms and practically get knocked over when trains go by at speed. Regardless, kudos to Frank for the photo, capturing a historic moment.

K100 - I've actually been REALLY close to a train when it passed me, it was fine.
