I know the L&N was pretty bad off by that point, but it's amazing they let something hauling passengers get that bad. It says something about the company's public image

Well, actually the L&N was fat and happy, and making lots of money at the time--and paying nice dividends to its shareholders (including the ACL). They obviously weren't spending excessive cash on locomotive paint, though. :)

My Great-Grandfather was an engineer for L&N railroad. He operated # 756. I have super 8 film of him from 1967.
