That is a great little line for the railfan. I high-railed this one a decade or more ago and remember hoping that our vehicle wouldn't derail - especially as we crossed the high bridge over the river at Norridgewock. At that time, the track was in awful shape and speed limit was set to not much more than a crawl. I believe Pan Am has since improved the track to some degree, although it is still a slow-go.

I wanna say it was a later chase along the line, but one of the crossings north of the Norridgewock bridge had someone spray paint the road to one side saying "Please fix me." Unfortunately, heard months ago that the mill in Madison had jumped over to truck service due to the poor PAR service. Now, THAT certainly wouldn't be a first. Haven't heard a weekend MD-1 in months either, but I need to get out there and check the branch myself.
