I find it interesting that what the rail fans in the U.S. consider "normal" looks for locomotives have never considered that perhaps to other rail fans around the world, the U.S. has "ugly" locomotives. That being said first - now my comment; what is it with the locomotives around the world? I mean some of these things are just "butt ugly"! Do other countries have no pride in their railroads? I mean Germany has some AWEFUL looking locomotives, Russia, China, Brazil..there are a few countries that could really use a railroad "facelift" of their equipment (if you know what I mean)! I must say that the paint scheme on this EMD does tend to "soften" the "ugly" a bit but, yeah I agree Lucas, this is a very ugly loco. Why does it seem that some of these countries around the world actually want their locomotives to be "UGLY"? It would be an improvement if some of them were tagged with graffiti they're that ugly! Okay, now back to photos of the J-Class 611! There's a real beauty!

is not that ugly, i think there are uglyier ones, but this locomotive wont offer any safety in a head on collition.

I suppose railroaders in foreign countries may consider USA models as ugly. Like the old saying, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Imho, Great Britain seems to have "cornered the market on ugly" with many of their loco models. What's more puzzling to me is why they haven't replaced their hook and loop couplers with knuckle couplers.
