Amazing to see these EMU still going strong on Cuban soil no less, and still in their original livery, 40 odd years after they were built for the Catalan railroad. They were built in house in two main batches, the first were re-built 1920’s stock, during 1947-1952 and a second batch built new between 1967-1977, totaling 28 motors and 14 trailers (14 + 7 in each batch). The normally ran in a three car configuration between Barcelona and the towns of Sabadell and Terrassa (the line splitting at San Cugat). Interestingly, track gauge was standard at 1.435 m (4’ 8½”), despite the rest of the countries Iberian gauge of 1.668 m. I used these trains as a daily commute back in the late 70’s, and they bring many fond memories.
