This tour ended up bankrupting Alan Pegler and was almost the end for Flying Scotsman herself (at least as a running locomotive, there was even real fears that she might get cut up for scrap, such were the debts...), it spent many months in storage, eventually being purchased from the creditors and repatriated to the UK by the British construction magnate (Sir) William McAlpine. Many thanks for sharing.

Great photo, I remember an American guy on a trip to Europe landing at Parkeston Quay and came to look at my loco for the Boat, he and his family were travelling on to London, he told me he was a driver with Amtrak out of New Orleans so I asked if he would like a cab ride, he jumped at the chance, a Class 86 with 11 coaches about 340 tons, he couldn't believe our locos were so small compared with the US locos, I really ran her hard and eased off the power at 120 mph we arrived 12 minutes early, he was amazed at such a small loco could do such speed, officially 110 mph maximum.
