Nice catch Steve, and I like the "little" play on words of the "..extra muscle.." you used in your description of the photo (as it could also apply to the rather "big" crewman walking to the cab pn 5291). Good thinking on that too. I would like to know what the third unit is also as it obviously isn't the "Reading" Heritage unit.

Thank you, Dana! The third unit belongs to the New York Susquehanna & Western, the railroad which owns and operates this line. The railroad leases anywhere from 2-4 four axle units from the Conrail Shared Assets in New Jersey to supplement their existing fleet of six axle road units. The 5291 has called the NYS&W home for a few years now while the 5288 was only on property for a few months before being returned to Shared Assets.

Thank you for the information Steve - I also like how the NS 5291 has an "odd" number "2" on the engineers side number board. Can hear the shop guys now: "Hey! We got a Deuce for this number board?" Reply: "I don't know, let me check!" (pause for a couple minutes) "Nah - we ain't got a Deuce - here, use this Sharpie..Just make it thick and black enough to see clearly from the ground!" Well - that's what it looks like. Two different boards too! I guess when you need a number - just slap one that works and send it on it's way....
