Great shot! Amazing to see five helpers in a team
|
From what I have seen out of MRL's rules, unless something has changed recently, they can only have four helpers on-line at once (32 powered axles, with each 70ACe counting as 8 powered axles). I'm not sure if the rules were different in 2011, or if they left one unit isolated and kept the fifth as a backup, possibly on account of the inclement weather? Additionally, as a fuel-saving measure, I have heard that they actually leave the helpers in Run 7 and let the BNSF road power (head end and DPU's) work the hardest.

Very interesting. I don't known for sure if they do this, and once you said it, one engine is probably not running and just a backup for the harsh weather. But at least I known it sure sounds like the engines are in Notch 8 going u the pass, and idk, but could the engines run with the front at full and the middle not? Seems like ti would just make it even harder having the mid engines not going full, but what do I know? lol
