Amazing shot - historic, and well seen and captured. Odd this was as "recent" as 1977. Anyone know why the practice stopped?

Boy, this is a slice of railroading I figured was gone by '77. I bet that siding was a bit odoriferous after the wash down eh!??

Not sure why the practice stopped. However, as a young car knocker working in the Barstow yard in 94 I sure remember that smell as it passed by. They smell much better in the frying pan for sure.
