Magnificent photo. It looks like there is a pile of wood in the tender of the second loco. If so, do they burn wood as well as coal?

There are no problems with firewood in Siberia :-) But i think that the pile of wood is uded mainly just for show. Tour's participants can throw firewoods into the furnace, for example.

I can remember well the time when seeing any train pictures from Russia meant the image had been taken illegally and smuggled out of the country. Now we can see wonderful images such as this casually among friends.

Thank you, folks! It has created a very favorable environment for tourism in Russia now. This year, visitors from abroad especially a lot. Especially around Lake Baikal. To make photograph on the railway (as well as everywhere) officially permitted by Russian law. Travel to Russia is very inexpensive and safe, incredibly exciting and interesting... Welcome! :-)

Strange to see two steamers coupled back to back.

Wonderful photo, Ilya. You get my PCA nod from me for both Lake Baikal, the two steam locos-especially running back-to-back. Absolute Perfection!
