Fun shot, you don't see too many photos of this class of windows. Also fun to hear how the loco passed you while you where in a car.

I can't say I've seen this type of SP power before. She definitely has SP styling to her....smooth pilot, cowling across the entire top of her boiler, and an SP cab. And...you caught her with both sets of drivers in the classic 'rods down position' - that's not bad at all considering this was done in a moving car with an old camera back in 1950. Thanks for sharing.

These coal-burning locomotives were essentially conventional SP "Cab Forward" locomotive. If built like the other cab forwards, getting coal to a firebox would have been a challenge. These locomotives were later converted to oil and worked the Modoc line.

Beats my experience by a mile catching "The Rock" in the then new blue diesel paint scheme unexpectedly! Great shot - what a world it was to have machines like these running every day!

Wow, I never though I'd see a picture of an SP AC-9 here...and she's working some speed too, as your comment describes. What a beautiful Lima beast.

This is a wonderfully evocative photograph. I can almost smell the AC-9

That is one tough-looking locomotive! Thanks for posting this, you did a great job and I can sense your excitement as it rolled past!
