Not a cool operation, it's unsafe. What if someone tries to pass in front of the train? And the RCO is usually a new hire conductor who has never sat in the seat to know the train reacts to slack action. When working the box you have no feel of how the train is moving. Also it takes away the job of a trained and experienced engineer.

Well, the box only allows you to use the Jam anyway so train handling isn't ever going to be smooth. Wanna know how to get a draw bar in the yard at 2 MPH? Run the box and you'll find out lol

BTW all RCO movements are made as if they are shoves. IE there must always be somebody protecting the point.

I would love to see ALL remote control locomotives scrapped onsite.

And also, not all moves have someone protecting them. Have you not heard of a "Remote Control Zone"? Nobody is on the locomotive and it runs without protection inside that zone.

They have "pucks". These little discs that the radio control equipment pick up on. They are placed like every 1,500 feet or something (I forget) and they basically allow the train to pull out a certain distance. If you're working in the area, obviously you're supposed to call and ask if there is an active zone. Robos aren't fun I know, but you sure seem to hate them.
