Interesting operation. That brick structure in the upper right sure looks like it could have been a 19th Century enginehouse for small steam locomotives ( or a trolley barn ? )

Thanks for the photos, Kevin. Without your efforts, we would never be seeing any thing like this. Very interesting. Can you tell us what the brick structure is to the upper right ??

I'm expecting the evaluation to conclude rebuilding is not economical, scrap it. Am also expecting evaluation to look at how well it contained the fuel and oil; and how well it protected the crew.

Rich/Tom - the brick structure is part of the original structures - the enginehouse in fact - built c. 1850 for the Vermont Central Railroad, a Central Vermont predecessor. The property used here has been the first yard and general offices for the VCR. There are quite a few of the original VC structures present in Northfield, as this was THE first location of a railroad in Vermont. From NPS.gov: "Ground was broken in 1846 for the Vermont Central, the State's first railroad, at its headquarters in Northfield." The buildings and enginehouse all date back to the origins and are in line for long term preservation!
