Fantastic photo, PCA vote for sure!

This is ethereal! Absolutely fantastic.
Agree with all of the above - a superb photograph!

Thank you for going to the trouble necessary to produce an incredible picture.

Far Out Nick!...the depth man...the depth. I feel as though I could step thru my screen and into another world...

Killer photo and a powerful accompanying commentary. One of the better photos on the site recently and absolutely robbed by the SC snub.
Outstanding, Nick. PCA nomination here and really should be a SC as well. Excellent remarks to go along with your visual masterpiece.
Simply an outstanding image
Superlative photo, Nick. Thanks for sharing...PCA vote for sure.
All good things come to those who wait......Absolutely stunning!
wow! What a spectacular photo Nick. PCA vote from me.
Wow...that sky is mystical! Well done!
This is absolutely insane. The way the mountains are lit and how far the stars moved in just a few seconds. Then the darkness of the forest combined with the headlights. Topped off my a great write-up. Insane.

Gorgeous, Nick. Morant himself would be pleased.

In the South of France in 1899, a tortured Dutch artistic genius called Vincent van Gogh looked out of the barred window of his room in the insane asylum at St-Remy-de-Provence and, over time, painted what he saw outside that window. The painting was called "The Starry Night" and it is without doubt one of the most famous and instantly recognisable works of art in the world.
In the Canadian province of Alberta in 2015, a (hopefully untortured) North American artist called Nick DAmato trekked into the frozen mountains and used his camera and tripod to paint a modern updating of The Starry Night. If this work of photographic art doesn't become as famous as ol' Vincent's masterpiece, there is truly no justice in the world.
On my first trip to NYC as a young man in the 1970s, I gazed upon Van Gogh's painting in the MoMa; now I've seen Mr DAmato's masterwork and my artistic education proceeds apace. Still to come - the Northern Lights and a couple of others. Perhaps I'll see them on RailPictures in due course. :-)

The background has a fantastic magical feel to it, like out of a well illustrated story book. What ISO did you shoot this at?

Looks like a Bob Ross painting. All those happy little trees...

This is phenomenal. It's hard to explain everything in this picture that I love; there is so much. It is a perfect dreamscape.
Perfect. About all I can say.
Awesome take on an old classic. Love the description too. I wouldn't say the valley was deserted though. I'm sure there were some animals out there somewhere. Quite brave of you to climb up there at night.
Thank you to everyone for the very kind comments! This is a beautiful, beautiful spot, especially at night, and I'm glad I was able to capture a bit of that magic and share it in a meaningful way.
Beautiful scenery. Great photo.
Wow Nick, this is quite simply inspirational........will keep me shooting and shooting and shooting......makes my own PCA from a week ago seem inconsequential by comparison!
One of the most beautiful rail road photos I have ever seen. Stunning!
