Loco sure stands out against hazy winter landscape. Dark spots on wheel rims are of interest, perhaps I should Google the type to find something about that.

Those are the disc brakes integrated into the wheels. They are drilled for more effective braking.

I would say those dark spots are the receded bolts for the disk brake plates... given how shiny they are
