Interesting photo. The spent flares on the pavement show that this occurs often. I have only seen a crew do this once before-- on an Amtrak train I was ridding. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks John. This procedure is not that common. It really depends on the crew that is drilling, the time of day/evening or if there happens to be a nosy photographer around documenting them that they are following the rule book. The Silver Line property has 4 unguarded crossings. I've seen them more often not use flares and then some times, every crossing will get a flare.
