These may be woodchip cars? CP had a similar setup in the 90's going to James River-Marathon, Ontario with 40ft boxcars. The roofs cut off and the paper and wood on the doors. The door would get a hole punched through and the chips sucked out by a vac.

There's a lot to love in this photo. The Alco S6 in the attractive Nekoosa Edwards color scheme and all of those WC woodchip boxcars. These cars were loaded in Ashland and Hayward and featured cardboard grain doors held in place with wood planks. The makeshift doors on the other side of the cars only 3/4 height and the chips were blown in through that opening. These cars had stencils painted on each side of the door opening reading "Missing Door Standard to Car" and "Woodchip Loading Only". I grew up watching the WC's Ashland local hauling solid blocks of these cars and the old Soo Line bulkhead gondolas loaded with pulpwood. What I used to take for granted back then I wish i could see nowadays. Really miss the WC and the 90s.
