I've seen this picture before, but it is incredible to think of the work it took to pull it off.
I think an updated version would be a good project for Casey Thomason to put together...

Yes a stunning almost unreal image and an interesting moment in railroad (or at least railfan) history. I can only imagine how much work it must have been to get three big railroads to do something like that, but sometimes good ideas sell themselves. Yes, I've seen this or a similar image before, but well worth seeing again. And all the more impressive because it was done on FILM!

Casey could get some heritage units and the NW 611 and set up a daytime photo. First class photo all the way and a PCA vote.

If someone could convince CSX to paint some legitimate heritage units (instead of just slapping tiny heritage logos on regular units), it would be wonderful to recreate this scene.

I've seen this shot from several photographers, and they've all looked great! I can arrange an NS unit on the lower level, anybody able to get CSX to come to the party?! How about CSX on one of the upper levels and Amtrak on the other?

l have seen this photo before in one of my train magazines Rail fan & Railroad l use to get l think in was in December 1983 issue good photo today CSX & NS own the tracks that are on the Richmond Bridge

Excerpt from my Nov. '83 Railfan & Railroad: At about 9:30 on the evening of July 19, 1983, flashbulbs lit up the darkness as trains of the Chessie, Seaboard and Southern posed for a night session at the legendary triple crossing at 16th and Byrd Streets in Richmond VA. Over 85 photographers participated in the event sponsered by Railfan & Railroad on the opening night of the NRHS 1983 National Convention. There have been at least five other posings: 1906, 1926, 1949 (1st colour shot), 1958 and 1966. Little did I know then, that the summer of 2015 would have my wife and I in Richmond on a business trip allowing me to see it in person. :)

I remember seeing this shot (or a version of it) when I was a little kid. It's one of those ones that made me want to take train pics. It looks some kind of a goofy Lionel layout with the arrangement of the trains and the diverse paint schemes...only things missing are steam and the aquarium car!

This is one of those classic rail photos that is ingrained in the brain of every rail photographer, if it were music, it'd be Dark Side of The Moon. It got me to add film to my trackside adventures from that day forward.

I have a 11x17 framed photo print of this photo hanging in my office! I bought it years ago at a railroad memorabilia show!
