Seems trains were a bit shorter in those days 40 years ago. Beautiful photograph in a beautiful location.

Any idea what the train on the inside track is? Looks like it's stranded there.

The inside track is holding a stored work train that included crew bunks, which appear to be at least partially occupied. Note the CN Vanderbuilt water tender on the near end. This was one of two spotted on work equipment during this trip. Also the parked cars to the right of the train are probably workers's vehicles. At this time, CN was just starting to work on their first concrete tie program, and similar work equipment was seen elsewhere on this trip.
