Back in the 1960's I used to catch the Rondout Patrol off the Fireman's extra board. We used to switch the Frank's sauerkraut plant at Franksville. While the crew switched the plant it was the Fireman's job to get a gunny sack and raid the field next to the mainline and fill the sack with heads of cabbage. The booty was then handed up to the Flagman on the job and he in turn would separate the good heads from the bad while we were on our way south. When we got back to Milwaukee the ill-gotten gains were divvied amongst the crew. I'd drop my bag off at my Dad's so he could make his famous Borscht soup.
