I am curious why the line from Portage to Seward has not seen trains in several months, is that normal now? Some years ago I highrailed from Portage to Grandview in January and the line was in regular use all winter.

Answering my own question above, I just read that ARR's traffic is down something like 44 percent and the export coal traffic that used the Seward line is no longer running. Tough times on the ARR.

To further add to John's comment above the coal train was the only regular train during the winter. We do have occasional barges that call on Seward, hence the reason they are clearing the line. We are expecting a lumber barge as well as a couple of others so use of the spreader was necessary.
