Interesting--the interlocker piping is gone, electric switch motors are in place, but the westbound signals (one high and two dwarfs) are those of the interlocking plant. The dwarf signal at the right is actually a block signal protecting the eastbound main from there to East Switch.

An old operator on the IC told me that the IC built the westbound track when the railroad came to East Dubuque (called Dunleith at the time) and that sometime later the Q (or the Chicago, Burlington, and Northern, or some predecessor) built the eastbound track and crossed the IC in East Dubuque. Eventually the Q double-tracked their mainline between Chicago and the Twin Cities. Government actions mandated that the IC give the Q trackage rights on the westbound main from Portage to East Cabin and that it be double track for both roads. Allegedly, the IC owned the RoW on which the Q built their single track and the ICC or the courts had to resolve issues between the two roads. With the BN buying the westbound main, it all became academic.
