Pretty sure that third unit is a B30-7A. Radiator section is definitely a dash 7, not a U boat.

I don't think Conrail had any B30-7As, but I do think you're right about it being a "Dash 7" not a U-Boat. That would probably make it a B23-7 or a B36-7.

You guys need to brush up on your diesel spotting - all 3,300- and 3,600-hp U-boats had the extended radiators seen here. For the record, although the photo doesn't show it, the unit is Conrail 2974, and is one of four U36B's built for but not delivered to Auto Train as that venture encountered financial trouble. If I recall correctly, they were the first locomotives that Conrail purchased after its formation.

I knew that, Doug, but looked at some pics of the U36Bs and the "wings" on the radiator section looked smaller. Could have been an optical illusion based on the angle of the shot. In any event, if you recorded the engine numbers, no argument here.
