It's nice to see the old depot at Cooney has survived all the trials and tribulations of the past years since the Milwaukee Road went bye-bye in 1985. I have many fond memories of this place whether passing it at 100mph with Leo Meyers on the Fast Mail #57 or stopping with the Morning Hiawatha with Doug Pates Dad Russell. My favorite memories of Cooney were hanging onto the whistle chord of a covered wagon across the 17 crossings in town and firing for Sammy Jerome on #3 the Afternoon Hiawatha seeing the Chicago Pneumatic speed recorder with the needle bouncing between 108 and 109mph not counting the time we hit that big old black Cadillac near the Longley's place....again..nice shot Nick!
