To all southern Pacific fans out there haven't we seen those "shrouds"at the rear somewhere before?yeah you got it sd45x and gp40x they were also known as "elephant ears"can't believe a locomotive in 2012 has them fitted!

A most interesting "Beast." Curious WHY the radiators are shielded with such large panels ? It doesn't SNOW in Australia, does it ? Shields DO provide a nice large, flat, area to put a logo on, though.

I believe the guards or 'elephant ears' are for noise suppression which is a regulation in NSW Australia.
