Another really interesting oldie Hart. Amazing quality for something so aged. Thanks for sharing!

1952 was the year my dad moved from Royal Oak to Bend, Oregon.

In this day and age of full PPE gear and cordoned off cleanup areas, it's amazing to see derailment sights like this becoming the center of attention for the local crowds. I wonder how the cleanup crews felt about people getting this close to their work site.

The train swerved to miss all the people?

The "Good Track" road. Better take down the ads for a bit until they forget about this...
(And yes I know that slogan didn't come into being until a couple of decades later, but too fun to resist poking fun.)

Outstanding image! Can anyone confirm which direction the camera is facing? I'm guessing North (GTW timetable 'Westbound') but it is really tough to tell.
|
The photo was taken about 10:30 a.m. DST. The track runs about 30 degrees west of north as shown by the accompanying map. The sun is shining directly on the face of the man in a gray suit. Due to the shadows the camera is looking a little bit to the west of north.

Pass this crossing every day! Great historic pic!
