A beautiful compound articulated locomotive. Built in 1913, 40-some years after patented designed by Anatole Mallet. Makes me wonder if there's any survivors in Brazil, the country it was shipped to. Having seen N&W's 2156 this last summer at Virginia Museum of Transportation, I can't wait to hear Western Maryland(WM) operate #1309. I'm fortunate to live only 35 miles from Frostburg, Maryland, the turning point for the WM run from Cumberland, MD to Frostburg, MD. There are several simple articulating locomotives operating in the USA. But Western Maryland will be the only compound articulated steam locomotive operational in the USA. With many sections in excess of 2.5% grade, that has to be a beautiful sound echoing throughout the mountains as she ascends over 1,400 ft of elevation in that 16 mile run.

Did they have to build a special meter guage track for this to roll out on?

An impressive locomotive, did not know that anything that big was built for any South American railroads.
