Look at this photo an let your imagination take you to riding this train up in the dome early in the morning watching the snow fly. Then they call breakfast reservations for the the Rhodes family of six and your just hungrier then heck. Well your the last on the breakfast call and you ordered a small petit steak, eggs, taters, and some black coffee. Two min pass an the waiter returns to your table and informs you that all the steaks are gone but they have bacon or sausage left and you dont like to eat el porko. Well your heart sinks and your party all look at you and you can read it in their eyes and it seams to say to bad so sad Dad. Well you just think to yerself Why me and yer extra heartbroken some more, but you dont show it you just " man up " bout it. OK , still with me ? Drinks are on the nice clean tablecloth and the coffee's nice n hot steaming fogging up your glasses which you remove an put in your shirt pocket. You look out the window an watch the WP set of units beginning to round the gentle easement into the sharpest point of the curve and remark " sure am glad im not out in that working " as you see some track maintenance workers standing by while the Zephyr blast pass and they wave an some lite another smoke before the wind hits them. Breakfast finally is being served and it is nice n hot. The browns are crispy and the eggs are looking great. The other waiter comes back an tops off our coffee. He turns to leave an glances an extra long glance at me and says to me sitting next to the window " So sorry about your steak sir " and you kind of grunt and get even just a little more heartbroken over the no petit steak situation as you eyeball the other steaks on the other plates. As the train finishes this long curve and you just salt an peppered your food an jellied your toast here comes the other waiter coffeepot in hand and a huge T-Bone steak and says to you, '' This steaks for you. The breakfast cook was gonna eat it but I told him we cant fit in the galley as it is. So we flipped a Kennedy fifty ct. piece and heads won and I always call heads so my friend , this steak is for you " Then the train slowed as we went through some town with the sound of the crossing signals coming and going as the great California Zephyr rolls on out of town and crosses a silver truss bridge that crosses the creek. Thx. Roger .
