Now just whose idea was it to put a railroad there! Wild!

I guess this was necessary to avoid steep gradients, in the era of the steam locomotive quite important. Some further information about his railway line: this train came from Bragança. The section between Mirandela and Bragança is closed on December 15, 1991. The section Mirandela to Carvalhais was reopened on July 28, 1995. The section between Tua and Cachão is closed August 22, 2008. This for starting of the building of a huge dam in the Rio Tua (Barragem de Tua). This dam is almost completed now, It is planned to reopen the section between Cachão and Brunheda for touristic exploitation. In late 2016 I have seen that wors for this were on progress.

This line was a superb ride. Such a pity it was allowed to close along with the other Douro narrow gauge branches. A bit of imagination and they could have made great tourist lines.

Thanks John, I can only agree with you!
